“The Caribbean, beyond architectural and urban characteristics in the culture of our people”
The National Union of Architects and Construction Engineers of Cuba, UNAICC convenes the International Forum on Caribbean Architecture, in Cuba’s most Caribbean city, during the week of celebrations of Caribbean Festival 2013, which will bring about an exchange of ideas among professionals in the fields of architecture and urbanism in the region in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and the Casa del Caribe in Santiago de Cuba.
The Forum will address the problem of managing constraints of architecture and urbanism in Caribbean countries, from conservation strategies in architecture and urbanism, as a manifestation of culture in the region until the new trends in this regard are developed in defense of the cultural and landscape values of the Caribbean diaspora, in the face of globalization, tourism and climate change, but in an urban setting concurrently with and contributing to a major event – The Caribbean Festival (Festival del Caribe), celebrations of the rhythms, culture and tradition in which diverse artistic expressions combine towards a single CARIBBEAN identity which this year is particularly concerned with Colombia.
The exchange of knowledge and best practices are key aspects for institutions participating in the forum such as: Caribbean House (La Casa del Caribe), University of the East (Universidad de Oriente), the Office of the Curator of the City of Santiago de Cuba (Oficina del Conservador de la Ciudad de Santiago de Cuba), Earthquake Research Center of Cuba (Centro de Investigaciones Sismológicas de Cuba), among others.
